Tom and I have been friends for years, but it was over a glass of wine and a debate about the state of the public sector that we stumbled across our mutual love of plants.   It was then that the story of Downton and the Forest people unfolded…

Tom’s Downton family are Auricula specialists and until recently, owners of the internationally renowned Pop’s Plants and home to four national collections of Auriculas.  Multiple Chelsea Gold medal winners and prominent members of the National Auricula and Primula Society (Southern Section) their love of Auriculas is contagious.  But, after 25 years of Auricula growing the temptation of travel and fishing has led them into a new chapter.

Multiple trips to Downton, intensive training fuelled with an endless supply of food, laughter and Mr Gibbs has led us, with much love and gratitude, to become the proud owners of Pop Plants 2!

So, with buckets of enthusiasm and a hint of trepidation we have put our love of plants to the test.  Nurturing the Doubles collection, a selection of Alpines and Borders and any other Auricula we can get our hands on, our collection continues to grow.  And we continue to learn about these magical little plants, their persistence, beauty, history and ability to thrive with just the lightest of touch…
